Letter To The Editor

As a former chief financial officer and director of administration for a 1,000 person public agency, I think I can speak with some authority about the importance of good communications and reasoned decision-making in the management of large-scale organizations ("UB School of Management eliminates business minor," March 23). In my view, this was certainly not a shining moment for top school administrators who appear to have acted in secret and withheld important information from affected students without regard for its impact.

Throughout the semester, exhausted masses line up around the block for their morning coffee. With dilated pupils, these nervous, jumpy, and terribly alert college students are notorious for pushing the limits of academically induced sleep deprivation.To compensate, Campus Dining and Shops has introduced "Shock Coffee" as yet another way to escape the sandman.

Dominating on the road is the way every team likes to start its conference schedule. The women's tennis team did just that, rolling over its opponents on their home courts over the weekend.Buffalo went into their first two Mid-American Conference matches with high expectations after finishing as runners-up in last year's conference tournament."We wanted to send a message that we were going to dominate," said Bulls head coach Kathy Twist.

UB study lays groundwork for new advancements in heart attack treatment

Maurizio Trevisan, Dean of the School of Public Health and Health Professions, is the senior author of a ten-year longitudinal study conducted in Apulia, Italy that may assist the medical community in preventing heart attacks.The study aimed to discover if glycated LDL (low density lipoprotein), a type of cholesterol with sugar bonded to it, plays a role in heart attack risk.

Wish you were there

The color pink never sounded so good. On Saturday night, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra lended their musical talents to perform a noteworthy selection of the psychedelic songs of Pink Floyd.The BPO, along with Berklee-trained guest conductor Brent Havens and vocalist Randy Jackson, lead singer of rock band, Zebra, joined forces to give the crowd at Kleinhans a show that would make Roger Waters crack an approving smile.

Al Gore to provide two consecutive lectures

Due to popular demand, former Vice President Al Gore will address UB students and a select public audience twice when he comes to speak in late April.In conjunction with the Distinguished Speaker Series, Gore, the 45th vice president of the United States and renowned author of the best-selling book "Earth in the Balance: Ecology and the Human Spirit" will discuss current global warming trends in two separate lectures.
