UB Professor aims to assist in the rebuilding of declining regions

Kathryn A. Foster, director of the UB Regional Institute, has recently received approximately $200,000 from the Macarthur Foundation to conduct a national analysis concerning how regions respond to national demographic, economic and social challenges.Foster, a co-investigator for the Network on Building Resilient Regions, said that the analysis has been years in the making."The process that we have undergone in obtaining this grant has been underway since mid-2004," Foster said.

Studying addictions from a sexual identity perspective

A research grant has been awarded to Dr. Amy Hequembourg of the Research Institute on Addictions, with the intention of focusing exclusively on the addictions of members of the gay, lesbian, and bisexual community.Though substance abuse and sexual orientation have each had their turns in the media spotlight, no research until now has attempted to link the two.The grant is funded by the National Institute of Health, with the experiment being labeled as a C.O.P.E.

College of Arts and Sciences Dean selection underway

With the dean position currently vacant in the College of Arts and Sciences, a search committee has been formed to fill the position with a worthy candidate.English instructor Robert Daly, credited as a SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor, is chairman of the search committee.
