As another year of UB athletics wraps up, these are four moments and milestones that stand out across all sports.
The Naccarella sisters have been competitively swimming together for the past 15 years. The Bulls’ second-place finish at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) swimming and diving championship last month marked their last meet together.
UB had a strong day one — claiming two silver medals and setting a school record.
Tori Franz, a junior diver from Buffalo, has suffered from Crohn’s disease since the age of 10, enduring debilitating pain and weakness that can only be remedied by the slew of medications and medical specialists at her disposal.
UB swimming and diving (5-0, 4-0 MAC) finished second at the Mid-American Conference Championships in Bowling Green, OH at the end of the week — falling more than 200 points short of its second-straight MAC Championship victory.
UB’s swimming and diving team hopes to capture a euphoric feeling for a second time in late February when they compete in the MAC Championships in Bowling Green, OH.
Dyaisha Fair (Junior guard, women’s basketball)
Women’s swimming and diving (2-0, 2-0 MAC) earned third place out of 10 teams at the Zippy Invite in Akron, OH this weekend. The Bulls totaled 1,355 points over the course of the three-day meet. Penn and Akron edged UB for first place.
After capturing its first-ever Mid-American Conference Championship and dethroning seven-time champion Akron last season, UB swimming and diving (1-0, 1-0 MAC) is hungry to win its second consecutive title in 2021-22.
For the first time in program history, UB’s swimming and diving team has captured a Mid-American Conference title, after the Bulls defeated seven-time reigning champion Akron by seven points in the MAC Swimming and Diving Championships at the Jones Natatorium in Ypsilanti, MI Saturday.
Splash after splash rang off the walls of the Alumni Arena pool and natatorium Saturday. The Bulls opened up their season in an exhibition against the Cornell Big Red where the Bulls won.
Megan Burns didn’t want to swim in college. Her senior year of high school she was lazy, unmotivated and unwilling to put effort into swimming and academics.
This Wednesday to Saturday, the swimming and diving team will be competing in Mid-American Conference championships.
The UB Women’s Swimming and Diving team (2-0, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) churned out an emphatic 218-82 victory over the Toledo Rockets (0-1, 0-1 MAC) on Saturday afternoon at the Alumni Arena Natatorium. Senior Megan Burns and freshman Olivia Sapio led a Bulls team that won all but one of the events against the team’s first conference opponent of the season.
