No, this is not another misprint.In as dominant a performance as can be seen in any level of football, the UB Bulls (2-7, 1-6 MAC) steam-rolled Ohio University 44-0 to pick up their first conference win, and the first home win of the Jim Hofher era, Saturday afternoon.

From talking to players and coaches on the University at Buffalo football team, one would think this week's opponent, the Ohio Bobcats, are 6-1 instead of 1-6.While their record is not a misprint, it is misleading; Ohio (1-6, 1-4 MAC) brings the nation's third-ranked rushing attack to UB Stadium to take on the Bulls (1-7, 0-6 MAC) Saturday at 1 p.m.The Bobcats have faced some formidable opponents this season, losing tough road games to Akron and West Virginia.

Language Barrier Can Separate Foreign TAs From Students

The language barrier between students and non-native English-speaking teaching assistants, although sometimes more perceived than tangible, is an issue many departments at UB deal with on a recurring basis.Each year, departments such as computer science and engineering and chemistry field complaints from students dissatisfied with the quality of instruction their TAs provide, many of whom come to UB from abroad."Among the almost 2,000 undergraduate students who take chemistry each semester, we frequently receive a few complaints early in the semester," said Jim Atwood, chair of the department of chemistry.

"New Office Facilitates Technology Transfer, Patenting and Licensing"

In an effort to expand its economic development and technology transfer capabilities, the university has transformed the UB Business Alliance into the Office of Science, Technology Transfer and Economic Outreach.The Alliance, created in 1998, was an attempt to enhance UB's relations with local industry and to provide businesses with a single department to come to with proposals.

Technology Meets Society in the Digital Frontier

UB's Center for the Arts will move to the edge of the technological universe Friday when the university hosts "Digital Frontier: the Buffalo Summit 2001." The summit will feature over 40 speakers from around the county and will explore the relationship between technology and society, presenting on issues ranging from "Virtual Citizenship: Character for Characters in Globalized Society" to "The Shifting Images of Women and Computing.""I sort of felt like we needed to change perceptions of Buffalo," said summit organizer Jaylan Turkkan, UB's vice president for research.

"Talking With"" the Women of Pandora's Box"

"Talking With," a set of 11 monologues by Jane Martin divided into two acts, is a blend of unusual performances presented by the women of Pandora's Box Theatre Company.The show features 11 women, each alone on stage at different intervals, talking with and including the audience in a particularly poignant time in their lives.
