Intervarsity Christian Fellowship Pressured Gay Treasurer to Resign
By Luke Hammill | Dec. 1, 2011Sophomore history and French major Steven Jackson resigned last month from his post as treasurer of the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship after feeling pressured to do so because he is gay, he told The Spectrum. The Fellowship may also be breaking the law, as its constitution requires its executive board members to sign a "basis of faith," a statement affirming certain Christian beliefs.
UB Housing Blitz Continues
By Luke Hammill | Nov. 19, 2011Just over a month ago, junior political science major Jeremy Ferris was living in a soon-to-be-condemned Lisbon Avenue house that lacked running water and a landlord who answered the phone. Now, Ferris and his roommates live in a more comfortable home on Heath Street, thanks to a "housing blitz" ? a joint effort by UB Off-Campus Student Services and the City of Buffalo to make sure UB students in the University Heights are living in homes that meet city codes. On Saturday, Off-Campus Student Services Director Dan Ryan began round two of the blitzes with a team of Buffalo building inspectors.
