Happy Holidays: UB Executive Style

While some students and faculty members are able to forget all about life at UB once Winter Recess begins, taking a complete vacation is not a possibility for members of the administration and students who hold executive positions at UB.While each cherishes his or her vacation as much as anybody else, the word "vacation" might be a bit misleading."(People within the administration) have a total of two days off, Christmas Day and New Year's," said Dennis Black, vice president for Student Affairs.

UB Capital Campaign Remains Short of Goal

UB is $50 million shy of its five-year capital campaign goal designed to improve academic programs and the quality of life at the university. The campaign, "Generation to Generation," has generated $200 million thus far, and Provost Elizabeth Capaldi said there is little doubt UB can attain its $250 million goal by the end of the year.Due to a personal emergency, Jennifer McDonough, head of "Generation to Generation" operations, was unavailable for comment.According to the campaign's Web site, "Generation to Generation" is the fourth campaign of its kind in UB history, aiming to bring in more money than any other large-scale fundraising event held by a New York or New England university.Capaldi said fundraising is vital to making UB a distinguished university and all public universities must raise "a lot of private money.""If we really want to be terrific, we need to raise our own money," Capaldi said.

An Art Student's Dream

A group of about a dozen UB art students are getting ready to display their work at an art exhibit in downtown Buffalo tonight, featuring work created solely by the university's students.Untitled Art Gallery, located at 2331 Elmwood Ave., will be the backdrop for tonight's show, "Dreamscapes." The students rented the space, which was previously an empty storefront, to stage a student-organized and student-operated exhibit in a setting with an atmosphere different from that of the Center for the Arts, where their art is traditionally on display.Chris Vesper, a senior computer art major, is displaying four pieces dealing with how man relates to the world, in the context of dreamscapes."Having this show outside of an actual school setting creates a different mood," Vesper said.
