Increased Recycling Makes for Lower Bills at UB

For UB, recycling means more than taking care of the planet -- it also means cold hard cash.UB now recycles 34 percent of its total refuse, and that increased recycling helps UB to cut costs, according to Erin Cala, environmental educator for UB Green, the environmental division of the office of university facilities.UB pays the Lewiston-based Modern Disposal Corporation for normal garbage pickup by the ton.

Simpson's Pay Package Tops SUNY Salaries

When he moves into the presidential suite on the fifth floor of Capen Hall in January, John B. Simpson will inherit the most lucrative pay package in the State University of New York system.According to state officials, Simpson's annual compensation - which includes a base salary, an Amherst mansion and benefits from the UB Foundation - totals $400,000.

Students Hopeful for Simpson's Tenure

As John B. Simpson prepares to move from his house in Santa Cruz to the presidential mansion on Lebrun Road in Amherst, UB students are discussing what the transition of power will mean for the university.Some said the university's flaws -- many of which, they say, are quality of life issues -- will challenge Simpson.But for the most part, undergraduates and graduate students expressed optimism about the new president.

It's like a tradition for me, even down to the way I take my coffee, black, just like my father.Coffee is a tradition for people like me across the industrialized world; in fact it's the most traded commodity on the international market today after oil.
