UB notifies campus of Level 2 sex offender in mass email

UB sent out a campus-wide email alert Monday notifying all students and staff that there is Level 2 sex offender enrolled in classes. ?To my knowledge, this is the first time UB has needed to post or send such a notice,? said UB Spokesman John Della Contrada in an email. The email alert directed the campus community to a link from New York State?s Division of Criminal Justice Services? website that included the student Daniel Lampke?s crimes, photo and current address.

Two UB students died in June in unrelated accidents. On June 2, Rajan Verma, a 28-year-old first-year UB medical resident died in an accident at the Tralf Music Hall in downtown Buffalo.

UB to honor students who passed away

The ceremony will take place in Student Union Theater at 11 a.m. UB will honor: Brian Archie, Nicholas Arieno, Katielyn Aubertine, Taylor Binnert, Paul Englert, Jeffrey Gower, Jeremy Hayes, Saron Hood, Lisa Husung, Narang David Kim, James Kuwik, Michael Munella, Christopher Peterson, Emily Peterson, Kuan-Yu Benjamin Wu and Zachary Yambor. Director of Judicial Affairs and Student Advocacy Liz Lidano has been organizing this annual memorial since its inception 10 years ago.

"Contention, confusion shroud McCarley Gardens development"

The proposed plan between UB and the St. John Baptist Church for the university to purchase and redevelop low-income housing complex McCarley Gardens has been met with community ire. Where controversy lacks, however, misinformation and lack of communication overshadow the proposed deal. As The Spectrum reported Monday, McCarley Gardens has been the site of plans for the next phase of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC) expansion.
