From one Amherst to another

Spectrum File Photo Between 1:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. Thursday morning I sat underneath my heated blanket, stuffing my face with Special K cereal and silently, yet hysterically, crying. If someone told me two years ago I would end up in Buffalo, I would have laughed. But when my mother hugged me goodbye after move-in weekend my freshman year, I almost told her ?take me back with you.? Something didn?t feel right.

Second-hand swag: Thrift shop shopping

Naeem Rigaud, a junior media studies major, uses thrifting to customize his closet, enhancing his ?unique? style. Samaya Abdus-Salaam, The Spectrum Maggie LeClair?s wardrobe is completely recycled and pays for itself. After every clothing season, the junior environmental and geosciences major sells her unwanted clothes to thrift stores and uses the money she makes to buy new, thrifted clothes. ?I don?t think I?ve been to the mall since high school,? LeClair said.


The Center for the Arts is undergoing construction that has been broken into two phases. The current construction is focusing on fixing a water infiltration issue and salt erosion on the outdoor staircase. The second phase, which will be completed in two years, will replace the skylights in the atrium. The cost of CFA’s renovations is $1.4 million. Yusong Shi, The Spectrum
