UB Has East Division Title in Their Sites After Win Over Akron

For the UB women's basketball team, the magic number is one in terms of a home playoff game in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.The Bulls, however, have loftier goals.A MAC East Division title is still within reach after the Bulls rebounded from a sloppy first half to beat lowly Akron Wednesday night, 67-51, at Alumni Arena before 708 fans.

The question of whether or not it is still beneficial to society is being debated.It seems to me, and I don't mean to generalize, that most of the opposition comes from white people, and most minorities still strongly favor it.

CCR to Develop Plans for New Peace Bridge

Plans for a new Peace Bridge and advancements in surgery are two of the research projects being completed by faculty and students at the Center for Computational Research, home to UB's super computers."We look to support high-end computing and visualization, in terms of projects that require that sort of technology to provide access to research so that world-class faculty can do world-class research," said Russ Miller, director of the CCR, at Wednesday's Faculty Senate Executive Committee meeting.

Greeks a No-Show at MTV Premiere Party at the Sphere

The sidewalk in downtown Buffalo was lined with black velvet ropes. Inside the Sphere - a nightclub on Main street - a large screen played the premiere of MTV's Sorority and Fraternity Life shows, taped at UB.Unfortunately, nobody was watching.The party was billed as a premiere party for the debut of the two reality-based television shows, offering attendants the chance to watch the premieres with the cast members of Fraternity Life.The Sphere, which is normally closed on Wednesday nights, stocked up on alcohol and brought in extra employees.

Everybody Into the Pool

It's championship time again.With the regular season two weeks behind them, the Bulls travel to Bowling Green State University to participate in this year's MAC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.They will face tough competition, including the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks and the Eastern Michigan Eagles, both of which defeated Buffalo in a dual meet earlier this season.UB finished the regular season with a 4-8 overall record and went 2-6 in the MAC.The Bulls are led by sophomore Jennefer Brankovsky, who has broken seven school records in previous MAC tournaments and placed 15th in the 200-meter freestyle this year at the U.S.

More Students Seeking Psychological Help

While an overload of schoolwork can contribute to normal stress and anxiety, the seriousness of these problems among students is growing, as statistics show that psychological distress is on the rise for college students.While some students are feeling the strain more acutely, others may not feel more stressed than in the past."I take my problems one step at a time," said Angela Ling, a junior double majoring in sociology and media studies.

Bulls Look to Extend Winning Streak to Five Against Akron

Twenty-six days ago, on Feb. 1, the Buffalo Bulls women's basketball team was amid a two-game losing streak and turning the ball over like it was the trendy.Nearly a month later, the Bulls (15-9, 7-6 Mid-American Conference) have cut down on their obscene amount of turnovers per game, reversing a two-game skid into a four-game winning streak against MAC opponents Bowling Green, Western Michigan, Ohio and Central Michigan.
