Student-run Instagram shows students where to eat around UB

When Lisa Cannavale first noticed her Facebook newsfeed taken over by food blogs and how-to recipe videos, she got curious. She wondered whether there was a social media source that displayed UB’s wide array of food options. When she realized there wasn’t, Cannavale, a sophomore communication major, decided to start one of her own: an Instagram page named UB_hungry, which displays various photos of food in UB and currently has more than 300 followers.

Bernie Sanders' UB visit delays free student ticket distribution for Kevin Spacey

Students with a valid student ID were supposed to be able to pickup free tickets to Spacey's April 27 talk on Monday from 5-8 p.m. in Alumni Arena, but Sanders' recently announced rally will take place in Alumni Arena at the same time, so ticket distribution has been postponed until Tuesday. Students can pickup tickets from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday.


The process for voting is different for students who live away from home. Rather than going to the polls, those who are voting in this month’s New York State primary need to fill out an absentee ballot in order to vote.

UB students and faculty discuss absentee voting

Students living away from home must go through a different process to vote than those who go to school near home. Absentee ballots are required to vote if one is away from his or her county the day of the election, according to the New York State Board of Elections.


Many students are pushing for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders (pictured) to come to campus to speak.

Bernie Sanders may be coming to UB

The petition, which encourages support from the student body and local Buffalo residents, has been active since Sunday and is sponsored by both UB Progressives and UB College Democrats.


Controversial journalist Milo Yiannopoulos speaks at Rutgers University in February, where students protested his speech. Young Americans for Liberty is planning to bring Yiannopoulos to UB, causing concern for some students.

Young Americans for Liberty plans to bring Milo Yiannopoulos to UB

Young Americans for Liberty (YAL), a Student Association club, is planning to bring Yiannopoulos to campus this May to speak to students about the right to free speech. The SA Senate recently granted YAL $759 for the event and the Special Interests, Services and Hobbies Council gave the club an additional $300.


UB hosted a symposium on March 31 to discuss the Syrian refugee crisis in relation to the Buffalo community. In September, President Obama announced the U.S. would take in 10,000 refugees, with over 100 being relocated to Buffalo.

UB’s School of Social Work held a Syrian Conflict symposium on Thursday at the Buffalo and Erie County Central Library, located in downtown Buffalo. Students, professors, medical, legal and social work professionals from the Buffalo area all gathered to discuss the implications of the refugee resettlement


Alpha Epsilon Pi hosted its fifth annual Balling for Boobs three-on-three charity basketball tournament on April 2. The event raised $800, triple the amount projected for this year.

Alpha Epsilon Pi hosts ‘Balling for Boobs’ basketball tournament

Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPi) hosted its fifth annual Balling for Boobs three-on-three charity basketball tournament on April 2. This year’s tournament was originally projected to raise $500, but raised $800 – nearly triple the donations from last year. All proceeds from the tournament went to the American Cancer Society with part of the money being set aside for breast cancer research.

Missing UB student found OK

University Police has found a student that went missing Thursday. At approximately 9 p.m., UPD announced it was looking for Sahba Abraha, who was last seen getting off the bus at the Ellicott Complex on North Campus Thursday at noon. UPD tweeted at approximately 10:30 p.m. that Abraha had been found OK.
