Softball Team Update

As the softball season winds down, the UB Bulls have crucial games in the coming weeks that will determine whether or not they will earn a shot at the MAC playoffs (May 8-10, Firestone Stadium, Akron, Ohio). Buffalo has a 14-16 overall record (10-8 outside the MAC), but have continued to struggle in MAC play going just 4-8.

"SA, Spectrum at Odds Over SWJ Ruling"

The Spectrum appears to be headed for a collision with the Student Association over the outcome of a subscription increase referendum in the SA general elections held this March.New questions about the fate of the newspaper's referendum could prolong a final resolution well into the Student Association's new term.The referendum, which would raise The Spectrum's subscription fee from $1 to $3, initially failed because less than 10 percent of the student body voted on the measure.

SA Withdrawal Renders Sub-Board I Future Uncertain

While the Student Association prepares to withdraw funding from Sub-Board I, Inc., discussions are heating up as the corporation questions its fate and employees of Health Education and Human Services - an office funded by SBI - plan to flood SA president-elect George Pape with letters of protest.Pape, a former president of SBI, sent a letter to the undergraduate student population Tuesday, stating, "the current and incoming Student Association officers all stand in unanimous agreement that, under the current circumstances, we will not renew our allocation to Sub-Board I, Inc., for programs and services as of Aug.

SA Senate Approves E-Board Stipend Increase

The Student Association Senate voted Monday night to increase the SA executive board's stipend by $1,000 next year, bringing their compensation up from $9,000 to $10,000 a year.SA President Christian Oliver - who only two months ago rescinded a tuition waver he and fellow e-board members Jennifer Brace and Naazli Ahmed had received, following student outcry - said that after a personal conversation he had with the senators, he was led to believe the senate would have increased the stipends by more than $1,000, had it been requested.However, Oliver said, the incoming e-board requested an increase of only $1,000 because of the current "political climate," such as Gov.

Greiner Discusses UB's Fiscal Future on WBFO

Although President William R. Greiner expects the New York state legislature to reduce the amount of tax money given to SUNY in next year's budget, the proposed tuition increase could fill the revenue void that the cut would create, he said during "Talk of the University," the monthly WBFO call-in show he hosted on Tuesday night."The expectation is that there will be a significant cut in the state tax support for state universities," Greiner said.
