Erin + Buffalo 4-Ever

When I tell stories to my grandchildren, I'll have to say that Buffalo was my first love - it could be Mike Nelson, my first kindergarten crush - But I think it will probably be Buffalo. Most of my friends say I'm crazy."It'll never work with you and B.Lo," they say, ignoring my contempt of their snarky nickname for my city.

The Fashion Expert

I was watching some sitcom from the mid-1990s the other day and I came away with two general observations:1) Adding a monkey to a situation is guaranteed to make the scene hysterical.2) Any fashion styles ranging from 1991 to the present will be embarrassing in the future.Take, for example, the skort (the shorts/skirt hybrid), and overall shorts.

Hoobastank Pulls Out of Spring Fest

For the second time in as many festivals, a performer for one of UB's Fests has cancelled the performance, leaving SA Entertainment with the challenge of replacing an act on short notice.Hoobastank, the band originally scheduled to headline Spring Fest as part of MTV's Campus Invasion Tour, had to cancel the festival due to a payment dispute with SA Entertainment.Bands Ima Robot and LostProphets, which were also scheduled to perform, will not be playing the annual show."It is an unfortunate incident, but SA Entertainment is working hard to reschedule three bands of similar caliber and quality for the enjoyment of the UB students," said SA Entertainment Assistant Director John Haumesser.Though Haumesser would not confirm them as performers, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Hanson and Savage Garden are listed on www.pollstar.com to perform at UB on April 23, the scheduled day of Spring Fest. The concert will be held in either Alumni Arena or Baird Point, dependent on weather conditions, he added."It was an exhaustive search, but we are pleased that we have been able to reschedule such quality bands on such short notice," he added.

"While SA Vans Add On Miles, Some Van Records Don't Add Up"

This is the first of a multi-part series exploring the Student Association's use of the Mandatory Student Activity Fee, what the money goes toward and whom it benefits. One of the perks of being a Student Association club is access to SA's fleet of vans, which clubs can use to transport members or materials to various activities - something club members and SA officials say is a tremendous benefit. However, loose record keeping of the vans, including hundreds of miles unaccounted for and foggy rules regarding usage have called their van practices into question. The Student Association purchased six 2002 Dodge Caravans in June of 2002, which cost a total of $97,200, according to SA officials.Since May, the fleet has racked up a total of 81,527 miles and used hundreds of dollars in gas money, paid for by the Mandatory Student Activity Fee, the $69.75 fee paid by all full-time undergraduates.SA President George Pape said the vans are a necessity for a lot of clubs and many could not operate without them."Let's face it," Pape said.

Young and Stupid

I got a call the other day from my best friend from grade school. She said she had "exciting news."She said she was getting married."Wicked," I thought, partially because that was the slang we used when we used to play MASH in my basement, and partially because "Seriously, what are you thinking?! Don't do it!" seemed harsh in the face of this "exciting news."It's not that I'm entirely against marriage.
