Can blues be white?

Two white boys from Akron, Ohio make authentic sounding blues, for the fourth time. The Black Keys replicated their former success with this month's release of "Magic Potion." They started out in 2001 and have become increasingly notorious for their lo-fi rock.Dan Auerbach (guitar, vocals) and Patrick Carney (drums) produce an uncluttered sound by keeping things simple.

Interfaith ceremony covers unified message

The Dalai Lama's UB presence began Monday night in Alumni Arena with an interfaith ceremony. The message was simple but broad, highlighting the prevailing message of peace and kindness found within many faiths."This is something very unique," the Dalai Lama said of the ceremony.

Agencies coordinate with UP for Dalai Lama security

On a given weekday, UB's department of public safety oversees an estimated 40,000 people - students, faculty, staff and guests - on campus, promoting safety and security to what is basically a city unto itself.When the population jumps by tens of thousands and enforcement becomes exponentially harder, university police do what any good cop would.They call for backup.This week, as the visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama inspires everything from traffic frustration to inner peace meditation, on-campus officers will be collaborating with local, regional and national law enforcement to handle the influx of people."We will all be working in a combined effort to provide public safety to everyone," said Gerald Schoenle, UB's chief of police.
