Track team splits up for weekend success

The Buffalo men's and women's track team decided to divide and conquer this weekend as athletes were sent to either the Gina Relays in Michigan or to the powerhouse Penn Relays in Philadelphia.

Battling the elements is part of the job description when you compete in outdoor track events. The men and women track teams had to call on this skill over the weekend at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio."It was a very difficult meet to try to compete in with the different elements that we were facing," said Bulls head coach Perry Jenkins.

Heading into last weekend's battle with Central Michigan, the Buffalo baseball team was holding a 1-12 record, yet the Bulls had a chance for a fresh start with the beginning of Mid-American Conference play.

With the Mid-American Conference Tournament just a few days away, the women's basketball team traveled to Kent State for its final tune-up before tournament play begins.The Bulls, who will be the fifth seed in the East of the upcoming tournament, fell to the Golden Flashes in their final regular season game.

Women's tennis stays perfect

Zero was the number for the day for the women's tennis team as they defeated the Duquesne Dukes 7-0 and improved their record to 5-0.With junior Andrea Novaceanu still out of the lineup, Buffalo (5-0) was provided with another opportunity for other players to shine in the lineup against Duquesne (4-2)."Everyone played and got experience," said Buffalo women's tennis head coach Kathy Twist.

Bulls can't capitalize on late comeback

Buffalo head coach Reggie Witherspoon must have wished for a frantic final minute while blowing out 46 candles on his birthday cake, because that is exactly what he got.Despite a career-high 21 points from freshmen Byron Mulkey, the Bulls (11-16, 3-10 Mid-American Conference) were unable to cap a late second half come back and fell to the aggressive Golden Flashes of Kent State (18-9,10-3 MAC), 68-64."We played hard and what we talked about with the guys before the game is that we would have to come in here and not be contained and not be a pet.
