SA finds new worth in treasurer

Justin Neuwirt never made team captain or got straight A's, although he tried for both. He tried harder than most of the people he knew in high school and then watched as most of his friends set off for Ivy League schools, while he enrolled at UB. None of it bothered him.

"Jackson, Valdez respond to IVCF's re-recognition"

Former InterVarsity Treasurer Steven Jackson, who felt pressured to resign from his post in December because he is gay, and Senate Chair Darwinson Valdez, who made the official ruling to de-recognize IVCF as a result in April, spoke with The Spectrum and responded to IVCF's Sunday re-recognition by the Student-Wide Judiciary. Jackson supports the decision.

IVCF re-recognized as official SA club

Saturday afternoon, the Student-Wide Judiciary ruled in favor of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, restoring the religious organization as an officially recognized Student Association club and granting all due rights effective immediately in case IVCF versus SA Senate. InterVarsity was de-recognized by the Senate at the end of the Spring 2012 semester after homosexual treasurer Steven Jackson felt pressured to resign from his post. "It was definitely a pressured [resignation]...They made it clear that they felt like I should step down and kind of made me uncomfortable enough to the point where I just wanted to leave," Jackson told The Spectrum in Dec.

Skeletal remains and coffins found underground at UB

When construction workers were digging up land on South Campus for a new sewer line in March, they were surprised to find coffins and human skeletal remains within the soil. But Doug Perrelli wasn't. In fact, it was not the first time Perrelli, director of Archeological Survey, excavated human remains from South Campus soil. "Over the years, every time they move earth around in that area of South Campus they find bone fragments," Perrelli said.
