Preview: Count the Stars

Albany's Count the Stars are taking off. The four piece rock/punk band recently signed with Victory Records and are mounting a touring assault on the world with the hopes of being able to soon count themselves, stopping this Wednesday at the Cruise Inn in Lackawanna with Madcap and Flash Light Brown.Lead guitarist and interview rookie Adam Manning spoke about the process of picking a label.

UB Celebrates Opening of School of Public Health and Health Professions

The health of the Western New York community came first and foremost last Friday in Harriman Hall, when UB President William Greiner announced the grand opening of the newly formed School of Public Health and Health Professions.Merging the previously existing School of Health Related Professions with the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, which was previously part of the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, created the new school.Provost Elizabeth Capaldi appointed Maurizio Trevisan, chairman of the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, to the position of acting dean of the new school.

"One of these times that last second shot is going to go in for us or not go in for the opponent," said UB Head Coach Reggie Witherspoon.Unfortunately, that time has not yet come.The Bulls dropped another close contest 57-55 to Miami (OH) in front of 4,768 RedHawk faithfuls at Millet Hall on Saturday afternoon.

University Unions and Activities Board's bi-annual Sex Week climaxed Friday night with the 1978 porn classic "Debbie Does Dallas," providing students a chance to laugh and learn some tricks from Debbie's gang of pom-pom nymphomaniacs."There's people running on the stage," groans a UUAB staff member a few minutes before midnight, amused but irritated.

Bulls Own the Paint in Lopsided Win Over Ohio

The UB woman's basketball team (11-7, 3-4 MAC) took the lead and never looked back to triumph over the Ohio Bobcats (5-14, 1-7 MAC) on Saturday night at Alumni Arena, 72-59, before 890 fans.UB was led by freshman guard Hollie Cook who had 11 assists, nine in the first half alone.

Students React to Increase in Apartment Rates

With last Monday's announcement that the rents of on-campus apartments will again be increased, many residents and potential applicants are considering other housing options for the coming year.Although the increase was a hot topic around campus immediately following the list-serv announcement, many students voiced their opinion after Shereene McDermott, a junior health and human services major, responded to the e-mail and sent a heated response to the entire listserv.
