Windows and furniture have been vandalized in Goodyear Hall on UB's South Campus. A monetary amount is likely to be charged to each Goodyear Hall resident’s bill if no students come forward.

UB Goodyear Hall marked with vandalism

University Police are currently investigating vandalism in Goodyear Hall that will exceed $10,000 in repairs. Campus Living sent out an email to residents living in South Campus’ Goodyear Hall on April 15 stating that lights, ceiling tiles, windows and furniture that is “no longer usable” have been vandalized. The email stated a monetary amount is likely to be charged to each Goodyear Hall resident’s bill if no students come forward.

‘ReTree the District’ phase four

Kenney, along with other students, professors and community members, joined the University Heights Collaborative and University District Common Council Saturday to “ReTree the District,” an initiative to plant 1,000 trees in the University Heights neighborhood off South Campus. The initiative has been going on since 2014 and has separate phases, with this past Saturday being the fourth.

Protests planned for Donald Trump’s Buffalo visit

Trump, the frontrunner for the Republican Party nomination for president, is holding a rally at the First Niagara Center in downtown Buffalo Monday. Trump has caused controversy with his comments on topics like immigrants, Islam and abortion throughout his campaign, which has lead some Buffalo residents, including some UB students, to plan protests. Sityar attended a peaceful march started at Bidwell Park in Buffalo Sunday that was organized by a small group of people not tied to any anti-Trump organization. One of the group’s organizers, Ben Caldwell, said the protest is a proactive one and isn’t a response to anything other than Trump’s arrival in Buffalo.

Tom Toles, Pulitzer Prize-winning political cartoonist and UB alum, comes to UB

Toles, a Pulitzer Prize-winning political cartoonist and Spectrum alumnus, came to UB Thursday as the honored guest in UB’s fourth annual Signature Series. He held a gallery presentation of his work in Capen Hall Thursday afternoon and held what he called an “informal discussion,” called “Talking Toles,” in Slee Hall Thursday night, in which he touched on his cartoons, career and political commentary.

Bernie Sanders brings supporters in huge numbers to UB

Sanders’ rally made North Campus a crowded and hectic scene throughout the entire day, with a line forming outside Alumni Arena as early as 8 a.m. and eventually wrapping all the way behind UB Stadium. Those who didn’t make it inside watched Sanders’ speech on a video board outside the arena.

UB’s branding initiative is aiming to make the university a “distinctive brand.” The strategy looks to unite all of UB’s schools and units around the “University at Buffalo” name and is focused on clearing up the longtime confusion about the university’s name, said Nancy Paton, vice president of university communications.

​Republican candidate Ted Cruz to visit UB

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz will be the second presidential candidate to visit UB in less than four days. Cruz is set to speak at the Katharine Cornell Theatre in the Ellicott Complex on UB’s North Campus on Thursday morning, according to WGRZ. The event will be a town hall meeting in accordance with MSNBC at the North Campus venue that holds 340 people. It will start at 11 a.m.

'Serial' producer Sarah Koenig speaks at UB

Sarah Koenig made the first season of her now award-winning podcast in her basement. She had to pause the recording each time one of her kids flushed the toilet upstairs. She didn’t realize just how popular the podcast would be until there were 300,000 downloads in just a few days.
