Antwone Fisher, a man who has made a name for himself despite being told he was worthless during his youth, began SA's 2003-04 Distinguished Speaker Series Wednesday night."I felt unwelcome wanting to feel welcomed," Fisher said of his lifelong search for someone who could show him he was worth something.After a standing ovation, Fisher opened with a smile and a story of his sore tooth and how the UB Dental School fixed it.

Guard Rails Installed in Dorms

Here's an idea that we're not falling for: UB has decided to add guard rails to all lofted beds in the residence halls due to an unusually high number of incidents involving students injured while rolling in their sleep or when dismounting the bunks.Four incident reports have been filed since the start of the school year, and UB intends to order 600 railings for 300 beds - one for each side of the bed - to ensure students will not topple from the lofts.

Men's Soccer Prepares to take on the MAC

After a pair of tie games and one more loss to their record, the UB men's soccer team, now 1-4-3 overall, is looking to step up their performance on the field, as well as add wins to their less than stellar record.This weekend will be a perfect opportunity for the Bulls to improve their standings, as they travel down toward Albany today to take on Siena, and then make their way back to UB Sunday to compete in their first MAC game of the season against Akron.The outlook on the Siena game is promising for the Bulls, since Siena has experienced a rough start in their season as well, compiling a record of 0-5-0 overall.

In conjunction with National Hispanic month and UB's Gender Week, the Center for the Arts and the International Artistic and Cultural Exchange Program (IACE) of the Department of Theater and Dance will be presenting Rafael Ruiz' "Ritos," the 2001 winner of the renowned Mariana Pineda theatre competition.Produced by the Universidad de Granada Theatre Company, located in Spain, the group will complete its residency with UB tonight with a 7 p.m.
