All I Was Asking For
By COREY GRISWOLD | Nov. 3, 2003I usually don't ask for much from my hockey team, nor do I expect much. Darcy Regier has long advocated a team that competes, rather than excels, and it is because there are fans like me.

I am writing in response to the editorial entitled "Fan Ticketed for Actions at Game" in the Oct.
In college football you have to run the ball and create turnovers to be successful. This was evident in the Mid-American Conference this weekend as NIU and Marshall had multiple 100-yard backs en route to big wins over their opponents on Saturday.West Virginia also had a running back go over 100 yards and had a big special teams play - a blocked punt for a touchdown - that helped them to win against UCF.
Blood, gore, romance and panties - not the typical content in a traditional cartoon. But these super-violent and ultra-sexed animations are "not cartoons - it's anime," according to Alison Merner, a sophomore biochemistry and anthropology major and Office Manager of the UB Anime Club. The club meets every Tuesday at 8 p.m.

I'm convinced the gods are trying to tell me something. Last spring, I watched a documentary on VH1 about Joseph Francis.
In the past few years, Barenaked Ladies fans have not had much reason for excitement. After constant touring and hard work for most of the 1990's, the band has been on a well deserved break since their fifth studio album, 2000's "Maroon."After getting nationwide radio play with pop singles "One Week" and "It's All Been Done," both off 1998's "Stunt," lead singers Steven Page and Ed Robertson have shifted gears on their latest release, "Everything to Everyone." With songs similar to the unique tracks on the band's debut, 1992's "Gordon," their new material looks to revive the carefree roots of their best known song, "If I Had $1,000,000."The album starts off with a few upbeat pop songs, but slows down as it nears the end.
The Computing and Information Technology department is hoping that students won't notice their latest project. The department is upgrading the campus' current network systems from Windows NT to a Windows 2000 Active Directory system, which officials say will create a centralized location for data on all campus servers and will make UB's network ready for future technologies.Lesniak said few students, if any, would notice the changes in the network, but that is the goal of the project, he said."We will be measuring our success with how few problems this whole process will cause," he said.
It is an undeniable fact that time changes bands. The three years in between Radiohead's "OK Computer" and "Kid A," and the two years between Pearl Jam's "No Code" and "Yield" are indicative of this.
Enticing aromas floated through the colorfully decorated Student Union lobby Saturday as the Haitian SA presented a "Tribute to Haiti."The event was planned as an effort to dispense information about the country and its traditions, according to Marie Anne Sanon, a junior nursing major."The purpose of the show is for other cultures to acknowledge and appreciate the beauty of Haitian culture," Sanon said.Over 80 people attended the festivities, which were also planned by the Filipino-American Student Association, the Latin American Student Association and Beta Sigma Kappa fraternity."There is increasing support for the Haitian Student Association among Haitian and non-Haitian students," said Marie Duroseau, the External Vice President of the Haitain group.
While I can enjoy at least some songs from most genres of music, my love for hip-hop reserves a special place in my heart, a place second only to my devotion to reggae.

For the over 1,000 residents of South Campus, riding patiently on inter-campus busses is the only practical way to bridge the three miles that separate North and South Campus.Because the busses are so vital -- and because UB charges students $107.50 per semester to run the fleet as part of the transportation fee -- students say it is very important that they run smoothly and punctually.Last week, The Spectrum set out to investigate the system and found that student gripes about the system are minimal.Generally, The Spectrum found the busses run on time.
It's been four years since Vertical Horizon released their mega-hit "Everything You Want," but surely many people cannot forget the repetitive lyrics to the catchy, melancholic tune.
Here's an idea we aren't betting on: In an effort to fill a budget deficit projected to reach $14 billion over the next two years, New York State legislators are considering the further legalization of gambling operations throughout the state.
