"Frye, Akron Burst Bulls' Balloon"

Riding positive momentum following last week's 48-20 trouncing of the University of Central Florida at home, the Buffalo Bulls struggled in a loss to the vulnerable Akron Zips Saturday night at the Rubber Bowl.Despite jumping out to an early lead, the Bulls were ultimately bounced by the Zips 44-21, thanks in part to the offensive clinic that Akron quarterback Charlie Frye put on in front of 7,123 fans."Akron did an outstanding job tonight.

Volleyball's Losing Streak Continues

The volleyball team's troubles continued this weekend in match-ups against Kent State and Akron. UB was again unable to register its first Mid-American Conference win and extended its losing streak to seven matches.The Bulls faced Kent State (7-6, 4-2 MAC) Friday at Alumni Arena.

More Players Connected to Hazing as Details Emerge

Two men's soccer players are serving five-game suspensions over a Sept. 25 hazing incident, according to sources inside the Athletic Department.The department would not officially comment on the suspensions or reveal the names of players who have been suspended, but an upper-level official in the department confirmed Andrae Clarke and Brian Knapp, both sophomores, have been suspended for five games in connection with the hazing of freshman players on Sept.

SATV to Hit the Airwaves

Starting next month, students will be able to tune into SATV and watch student-generated shows, rather than only radio and requested movies.According to Tyler Bennett, the student director of SATV, the new programming will premiere in the first week of November on Channel 46.Open casting calls have already been put out and callbacks are currently underway to find actors for the new shows, Bennett said."This station is for the students and run by the students," he said, emphasizing the shows will use student talent both in front of and behind the cameras.Bennett said the station's programming will fall under three categories: open submissions, club events and original programming.The open submissions category covers anything students create and submit for approval to SATV.

Stepping Out of Comfort Zones: The UB Diversity Committee

Now considered by the Princeton Review as one of the most diverse schools in the country, UB owes its successes to a special committee created 14 years ago that still plays an important role, campus officials said.Comprised of faculty, staff and students who represent a broad range of campus constituencies, the Diversity Committee develops university-wide workshops, conferences, and film series focusing on specific topics relevant to issues of tolerance and diversity.Ellen Christensen, a Sub-Board official who is a member of the committee, said she believes it is important to understand and accept people's differences."Some students choose UB because of its diversity," said Christensen, director of Health Education and Human Services.
