A too-common 'odd couple'

Samuel L. Jackson and Eugene Levy: it just doesn't seem right. Judging solely on its cast, "The Man" is going to need an enthralling plot or plenty of sidesplitting scenes to keep audiences interested.Unfortunately, it has neither.Jackson has become a respected actor by playing roles like Jules Winnfield in "Pulp Fiction" and Ordell Robbie in "Jackie Brown."After reaching critical success in the mid-90s for his demanding roles and energetic delivery, his career has taken a nosedive.

Bulls oust Niagara to continue undefeated start

Bulls fans had good reason to roar on Wednesday as the men's soccer team skillfully bested Niagara University 3-1, bringing the boys' record to an impressive 3-0 overall. The win gives the team a great surge of momentum heading into the rest of the season with an offense that was ever-threatening against the Purple Eagles, putting up 17 shots on goal and keeping the ball in their opponents' end for the majority of the night.Strategic passing among the midfielders and the forwards yielded many scoring opportunities up front for Buffalo during yet another physical battle for the Bulls."A well executed play just like we do in practice," said forward Andrae Clarke about his first-half goal, the first strike delivered in the game.Niagara answered back after a questionable out-of-bounds call with 4:07 left in the first half to send the men into the locker rooms with the score tied 1-1.As the Bulls took the field for the second half the crowd was energized, and so were the players.

Operation Door Hanger takes aim at crime

Most students don't think twice about leaving their parked cars out in the open. Tiffany Landon learned how unsafe that could be the hard way. After leaving her car parked on Winspear Avenue in front of her apartment one night, she awoke to find that her side window had been smashed in, and many of her belongings stolen."They took a really expensive camera and lenses, tipped my radio out of the dashboard, ripped my alarm wire out, and picked through my CD's too," said Landon, a senior social sciences major. Many students, like Landon, discouraged by knifepoint robberies, occasional violence and common burglary, move out after the lease is up, but the Heights remains popular at UB for its affordable housing and proximity to campus. In any city, burglaries and robberies are bound to happen, leaving students to take steps to ensure their safety.
