From the acclaimed director of "My Left Foot" and "In the Name of the Father" comes the semi-fictional biopic of...50 Cent?In the past year, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson has been a busy man with the recently released "Massacre" album, an upcoming video game, and a guest appearance on fellow G-Unit member Tony Yayo's debut album.In a shocking variation from the norm, the highly praised and almost exclusively art house film director Jim Sheridan was chosen to bring 50 Cent's notorious life story to the silver screen in "Get Rich or Die Tryin'."One has to wonder if this concoction was put together by a studio oblivious to both 50 Cent's and Sheridan's past histories.

Petition to resolve bribery charges stuck in neutral

A petition spearheaded to hold last spring's Student Association election winners accountable for charges of bribery and slander has made little progress in two months, but its organizers say they are looking to regain lost momentum this week.Francisco Baiocchi, who ran with Matt Pelkey for SUNY SA delegate positions last semester with the Reform Our Campus party, said they currently have several hundred signatures and hope to get 1,000 by the end of the week.Meanwhile, the current chair of SA's Election and Credentials committee, Avneet Jacob, says he is trying to make a ruling as soon as possible, but the former chair left with all his notes on the case and Jacob has had to work from scratch with the SA Assembly."I'm coming into this as a clean slate, so I can see both sides," Jacob said.

"Winless to jobless: Hofher fired, will coach last two games"

Athletics Director Warde Manuel made the biggest move of his three months at UB on Tuesday, handing a long-expected pink slip to football head coach Jim Hofher.Hofher was officially dismissed at an Alumni Arena press conference in which Manuel said he is moving the football program in a different direction, effective at the end of the season.Hofher, who will coach the last two games before being released from his contract, made his lone statement via a press."It is with pleasure that I have served UB for these past five years," he stated.

The motorcycle grandma of Putnam?'s

Gloria Johnson is a cycle-ridin' grandma who raps like Fat Joe and is a video game wizard. She's also the unofficial face of Putnam's and one of the most popular employees in the Student Union food spot.At Putnam's she prepares food and cashiers, but her favorite part of the job is preparing members of the UB community for the day ahead."If someone comes through my line and I sense they aren't having a great day, I'll tell them a joke," she said.

SA forums aim for student input

In hopes of adding an extra element of student participation to their decisions, SA officials are seeking a big turnout for an open forum on Thursday, but the response to the planned discussion has been less than lukewarm.Leslie Meister, SA Student Affairs director, said she's been promoting the forum for three weeks and has yet to receive any responses from the general student body.The forum's goal, she said, is "to get the general student body's perspective of SA?

Decorating your living space!

I was sitting in my cave one day, receding into a pile of dirty laundry and food wrappers, when I had an idea.Hey," I said to myself aloud, "Why don't I find that pet hamster I lost a couple months ago?"Pick axe and shovel in hand, I began to unearth the geological layers of debris that had accumulated on the floor throughout the months.I never did end up finding the hamster, but somewhere in the Mesozoic layer I accidentally began to clean my room instead.
