Bulls hose Flames

UB men's basketball was on fire Tuesday, and the Flames couldn't take the heat.Displaying some of their best defensive hustle of the season, the Bulls left Lynchburg, Va., with a 66-53 win over Liberty University and extended their hot start to 7-1, the best record they've had since the 1958-59 season.Liberty's team was ashes under the Bull's hooves at the Vines Center in UB's fifth consecutive victory."We played in a very adverse environment," said head coach Reggie Witherspoon.

"Bulls feast on Leopards, snap losing streak"

The monkey is finally off their backs. After nearly two years without a road win, the women's basketball team picked up its first victory of the season and snapped a 19-game road-losing streak with a 65-56 win over the Lafayette Leopards.Senior Brook Meunier led the UB women's basketball team (1-3 overall) in their first road win since February 2004 as she took control of shot opportunities and drained 19 points.Meunier also achieved a career-high in assists with seven on the day.Several other Bulls' players also scored in the double digits, including sophomores Stephanie Bennett with 13 points and Heather Turner with 10."We got good play out of the bench tonight," said head coach Linda Hill-MacDonald.

Seniors set to bid UB football farewell

After losing nine out of 10 games this season, along with a coach, the UB Bulls will bid another farewell as 18 of the team's athletes will play their final game Saturday against Eastern Michigan on Senior Day.Although the Bulls have only one win on the field and have taken heat from the majority of the UB population, the Bulls' snoozing scoreboard hasn't dampened the team's enthusiasm.

Leaving the crowd unsure if the Bulls' leading scorer would see anytime in post season play, head coach John Astudillo proved he has a flare for the dramatic as he chose not to start the sophomore but then entered him just over a minute after the opening whistle.

Crew's freshmen sail into first place

UB's novice A boat attacked the waters with demon speed last Saturday as it finished in just under 20 minutes to zoom past the remaining nine boats with ease.Clocking in at 19:58 at the first annual Syracuse Invitational gave the novice eight an impressive first place out of ten entries.

"Women's swimming makes opening statement over Canisius, Siena"

The UB women's swimming and diving team started its season with a big splash this weekend, breaking six pool records in Friday's win at Canisius and winning all but two events in Saturday's victory over Siena.The team soaked up a total 24 wins at both meets."They started the season off very strong," said interim coach Scott Vanderzell.

Another big win means big challenges

Sunday's road game against Boston University (3-5-1) proved another impressive win for the UB men's soccer team (10-1-0), as the Bulls left the Terriers scoreless and became the nation's first team this season to earn ten wins.Head coach John Astudillo said although the Bulls were victorious against Boston, both teams played a strong game and the Terriers had their chances to grasp the win.

Twice the fun for tennis teammates

It is not uncommon to see the men's tennis team's two biggest pranksters leading an after-practice punishment run, two heavy bricks in each hand.Nikesh Singh Panthlia and Yules Hadisubroto are a talented doubles team, and although they are dedicated to their sport, they have a unique way of enjoying tennis, sometimes spending almost too much of their practice time playing practical jokes and throwing temper-tantrums.Both having played tennis since the age of 7, the now-dominant duo met for the first time under intense pressure in 1999 at the World Junior's tennis tournament.

All good things must come to an end, and for the UB men's soccer team, an end came on Sunday.Riding an eight-game winning streak to open the season, the Bulls were handed their first defeat Sunday afternoon as they fell 1-0 to St.

Bulls blow over field

In the Bulls Classic Tournament this weekend, the men's soccer team slid, sprinted, and took some serious spills, but emerged on top, defeating Valparaiso and Cleveland State in two exhausting battles on the field.Although Buffalo was slow to produce goals in the first halves of both games, it was victorious in beating both opponents and received several awards in the process.Buffalo (2-0) put up a tough struggle in the first half of their game against Valparaiso, striving to obtain possession of the ball and end the first half in the lead.
