Former UB student fights brain cancer

When a headache on the morning of Sept. 9 suddenly became more than a mild pain, UB alumnus Reginald Jacinthe knew something was seriously wrong.His roommate noticed he was sweating and a bit disoriented.

Cut Chemist clips first solo album

Lucas Macfadden, otherwise known as "Cut Chemist" (and formerly part of the underground hip-hop group Jurassic 5), has embarked on a solo turntable project that promises to dazzle some while sedating others.His debut effort, "The Audience is Listening," is a collection of beats that are so complex that they often teeter on the brink of avant-garde obscurity.Most of the tracks are arranged with samples or pre-recorded sound clips.

Seeing Fallujah firsthand

At the age of 32, film director Ian Olds is older than the majority of the soldiers featured in his documentary "Occupation: Dreamland." But after spending six weeks capturing them in combat and at rest, he is truly able to appreciate their experience.This past Wednesday, the audience was transported from room 112 in the Center for the Arts to the war in Iraq with the Army's 82nd airborne unit.
