Tragedy in any language

Anything that happens today can result in disaster tomorrow. Such is the case in Alejandro Gonzalez's drama "Babel," as he takes the concept of a chain-reaction to epic proportions. The film's abstract and philosophical plot is similar to that of Gonzalez's previously acclaimed feature "21 Grams." The storyline races around and keeps the audience's constant attention, steadily building up momentum as each story draws closer to its inevitable climax.

UB Researchers work today on the 'electricity of tomorrow'

October's "surprise" blizzard left thousands of people in the Buffalo area without power for days, but UB scientists say that with the implication of wireless, storm-sensing transistors, future power outages do not have to be nearly as costly or frustrating. One of the many implications for the developing nanotech sensors is their ability to pinpoint the exact location of a power outage, according to researchers at UB's Energy Systems Institute. In the recent storm, electrical crews had to go street-by-street looking for the location of the several problems causing power outages - such as a downed line or damaged power box, while many lived without electricity for days.Sending out crews for repair is costly in both time and money, and researchers say that with the new sensors they would be able to pinpoint the problem and isolate it much faster than before.According to W.

As Kermit the Frog used to say, "It's not easy being green."Amid the whirlwind of college life, it's easy to forget about recycling papers and plastics, or saving energy and water, but living "green" - making choices that have a minimal (or positive) impact on the environment - doesn't have to take a lot of effort.EnergyAccording to Erin Cala, an environmental educator at the UB Green office, awareness is the key to dealing with issues like energy consumption."I don't believe that North Americans are aware of the impact of their actions," Cala said.
