Studying addictions from a sexual identity perspective

A research grant has been awarded to Dr. Amy Hequembourg of the Research Institute on Addictions, with the intention of focusing exclusively on the addictions of members of the gay, lesbian, and bisexual community.Though substance abuse and sexual orientation have each had their turns in the media spotlight, no research until now has attempted to link the two.The grant is funded by the National Institute of Health, with the experiment being labeled as a C.O.P.E.

"Burglars strike Heights, campus over break"

Both off campus in University Heights and at UB North's apartment complexes, several students came back to school after winter break to find their homes turned into crime scenes.With possessions stolen and collateral damage left behind, now they're concerned how the university handles their safety and security.'UB needs to do something around here,' said Mike Maslyn, a senior communications major.Maslyn, who currently lives on Merrimac Street in the Heights, was one of several students that returned from break to find his home had been burglarized.

Planning the next five years of UB 2020

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between UB and SUNY is expected to be completed next month according to Sean Sullivan, associate vice president for academic planning and budget.The MOU, which will outline campus goals and objectives for the next five years, reflects the goals of long-term plan UB 2020, and is designed to act as the foundation for meeting these goals, Sullivan said.An objective shared by both UB and SUNY is for the university to 'become a premier national research university and grow by 10,000 students by 2020,' Sullivan said.
