Spirituality integrated into medical school curriculum

Starting this fall semester, spirituality has officially been integrated into the four-year curriculum of the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at UB.According to Karen Devlin, the program manager, the Spirituality in Medicine Interdisciplinary Training Program will not add credit hours or change the current set of required courses in medical school.

Students donate ponytails for charity

For the third semester in a row, Student Activities teamed up with Supercuts to benefit Locks of Love, a not-for-profit organization that provides human-hair wigs to patients undergoing chemotherapy.A total of 22 UB students donated their ponytails to the cause, and 82 students helped raise money for the organization by getting haircuts in the Student Union lobby."It definitely shows that our students care about what's happening outside of the University, not just here," said Jennifer Wantz, assistant director of Student Activities.

Hot Hot Heat go luke warm

While many fans may grab Hot Hot Heat's new album Happiness LTD. for their next dance party, only a handful of songs will be worthy of the bash.Compared to previous albums from the Canadian quartet, Happiness is not nearly as upbeat, accenting the overall heartache mood of the CD.And yet, despite the dimness of the record, the band has clearly matured, and its lyrical content and overall sound reflect it.

FSEC addresses emergency preparedness

With incidents like 9/11, the Virginia Tech shootings, Hurricane Katrina and the October Surprise storm influencing UB's Critical Incident Management plan, the possibilities for emergency preparation are endless, according to Beau Willis, executive vice president for University Support Services.Improvements in UB's emergency preparedness plan that occurred over the summer as well as future concerns for the University were addressed in a panel discussion held at the Faculty Senate Executive Committee (FSEC) meeting this past Wednesday."We're trying to promote the notion of UBSafe," Willis said.
