Carbon monoxide leak prompts UB to make safety changes in dorms

After a carbon monoxide leak in Richmond Quad poisoned 10 students and sent five of them to the hospital Sunday night, UB has made major safety changes in its dorms. Freshmen roommates Neil Campbell, Bennett Sciacca and Tijo Mathew - three of the five Richmond residents who were hospitalized - are still shaken up with what they experienced.

UB calendar may see big changes in fall 2013

The Faculty Senate Executive Committee voted to have class sessions over winter break and hold classes on Labor Day and Jewish holidays. The proposals still have to go to President Tripathi before a final decision is made, and administration will likely set up a group to provide student input, according to Daniel Ovadia, the UB Council student representative.

This semester, there are 42 members of the Student Association Assembly - 30 more than last semester. "I'm shocked, in a good way," Assembly Speaker Steven Jackson said after the Assembly's first meeting of the semester on Wednesday.

One in three women in the world is physically or sexually abused in the course of her lifetime, according to the United Nations. UB students and members of the Buffalo community aim to change that - by dancing. SBI Health Education is hosting a dance-a-thon - Rise Up and Dance - this Friday night in the Student Union as part of the V-Day movement.
