UB Campus Dining & Shops allows students to divulge Buffalo’s cuisine without leaving campus

UB will feature three restaurants from the Buffalo area in all three dining centers – Culinary Crossroads Center (C3), Governors Dining Hall in Governors and Goodyear Dining Hall – on special nights throughout the fall semester: Sun Restaurant, Cantina Loco and Sato Ramen. The program started Tuesday night with Sun Restaurant and will continue for future semesters to come.

Super moons are when the moon is in the closet part of its orbit to Earth. On Sunday, the super moon occurred during a lunar eclipse, which is when the moon, the sun and the Earth are in exact alignment. It occurs about twice a year and is what caused the moon to appear red.

UB Humanities helps throw 'Gender Bender'

The UB Humanities Institute partnered with SUNY Buffalo State, Canisius College, SUNY Fredonia and Niagara University to organize the festival. The keynote speaker was author Jill Lepore, who spoke on her book The Secret History of Wonder Woman the night before the festival at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.

The Latin American Student Association hosts socials every Tuesday night to teach members and new participants about dances from all different countries.

The LASA holds Latin socials, which consist of performances and educating participants of traditional Latin dances, every Tuesday night. The choreographers usually give a brief history of the dance and where it comes from, and shortly after, teach the dance to everyone who comes.

Buffalo Wings Service launched last weekend, making the shuttle service Buffalo’s first hop-on-and-off entertainment shuttle. The service provides rides with 26 total stops – 13 stops each northbound and southbound – and takes riders to Buffalo’s eight entertainment districts: the University Heights, Hertel Avenue, Elmwood Village, Allentown, Chippewa Street, Pearl Street, Canalside and Buffalo Creek Casino.

A New Sound: Trebel innovates online music sharing

UB’s Table Tennis Club has achieved temporary club status this semester and will continue to work up to permanent club status in coming semesters. The group practices in Alumni Arena.

UB students dive into jobs as on-campus lifeguards

Not every job at UB requires experience with food or customer service. There are 86 students and three recent alumni who serve as lifeguards at UB, according to Nathan Bourke, the aquatics director. Currently, 27 students are on the waiting list to be hired for next semester and need to take a lifeguard assessment.

Michael Fiorica is a recipient of the Presidential Scholarship, the most competitive scholarship UB has to offer.

Palmeri ran a business out of his garage until word got out about the “master barber.” For four years, Palmeri’s barbershop Jonny the Barber was located on Main Street in Williamsville. Due to the shop’s growing popularity, he opened a new location on Delaware Street in Tonawanda three months ago.

Indie-rock group Modest Mouse, along with punk-rock group Rise Against, will headline Edgefest, an alternative music festival at the Buffalo Outer Harbor this weekend.

Downtown Buffalo can often go unappreciated by students who have a hard time getting there without a car. Fortunately, there are buses and trains that offer rides back and forth, giving students an opportunity to explore another side of Buffalo. While the weather is still nice, a weekend adventure around the town is easy – as long as you know where to go.

The National Buffalo Chicken Wing Festival was held at Coca Cola Field in downtown Buffalo Saturday and Sunday. Festival-goers were able to sample various flavors of Buffalo's speciality and enjoy live entertainment.

This weekend was the 14th annual National Buffalo Chicken Wing Festival, more commonly known as Wingfest. The event lasted Saturday and Sunday and allowed community members and visitors from around the world to taste flavors from various vendors of Buffalo’s famous export: the chicken wing.

Eddie’s Chophouse opened on Main Street near South Campus on July 13 in what used to be Slice of Italy. The restaurant offers Chinese barbecue, a style of Chinese cuisine that is a collection of roasted meats that are hung in a Chinese smoker rather than an oven. The chicken and duck both have bones and are chopped before serving.

The owners of The U, the popular 18-and-up club near North Campus, have closed the venue and are opening a Mexican restaurant in its place. Renovations have been taking place all summer, and will continue through the fall until the restaurant is prepared to serve.
