UB student-DJ hits over 1 million plays on Spotify

Femi Popoola, a junior pharmacy major who goes by the name Frank Pierce, wants his music to sound original and not just another nightclub hit. He has been making music since he was a child and has over 1 million plays on Spotify. He started off making remixes of popular songs on SoundCloud, but strayed away to focus on making his own sounds.


Different colored lights transformed the plant life in the Buffalo Botanical Gardens. The Botanical Gardens wrapped up its seventh annual Lumagination display this Tuesday.

The Buffalo Botanical Gardens wrapped up its seventh annual Lumagination display this Tuesday, breaking previous attendance records with help from UB students. During Lumagination, colored lights from across the spectrum transform the plant life of the Gardens.

Grande opened the show with that giant projection screen and her talented dancers, including twins Brian and Scott Nicholson. The superb performance of “Be Alright” replicated Madonna’s ‘80s classic, “Vogue,” and set the standard for the rest of the show’s well-choreographed numbers.

Spectrum’s recap of 59th Grammy Awards

On a night full of fair performances, the Grammy Awards took a political turn toward when A Tribe Called Quest took a stand against President Donald Trump. The hip-hop group, joined by Grammy-nominated singer Anderson.Paak, began their performance on Sunday night with a medley of classic hits. After a pleasant mixture of hip-hop, legendary rapper Busta Rhymes joined the performers with a mission to shut the show down.

UB professor discusses Trump's presidency and the arts

UB professor David Schmid said it has been a long time since the U.S. had a president that “knows so little about the arts as Trump.” President Donald Trump has threatened to defund the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) completely since entering the Oval Office. Without these two agencies, funding for the arts in public institutions would be cut and students would have to pay for private art lessons.

UB Center for the Arts exhibit speaks of death, dancehall

Ebony G. Patterson uses glamorous accents such as glitter and sparkles to draw viewers into the ideas of gender and death. Patterson, a Jamaican-born artist, created Dead Treez, an intricate exhibit that draws in viewers through lustrous, vivid hues. Patterson’s work opened on Thursday evening in the first floor wing of the UB Art Gallery in the Center for the Arts. The exhibit’s artwork is inspired by Jamaican-style dancehalls.
