The first time I heard about the UB Spectrum was when one of my friends picked up a print copy of the paper and gave it to me, knowing that I would find it interesting. The cover story was about former UB student and campus drag artist Mx. Ology. I was instantly intrigued, both by the story and the fact that there was a well-organized student newspaper being created at UB. Even though I had no idea how, part of me wanted to join the team of writers who brought stories like these to fruition.
The holiday season doesn’t truly begin until you put on a Christmas album. Whether it’s jazzy and nostalgic or loud and unapologetically pop, everyone has an album that they’ll enjoy. Some albums fade with time, but others return every December like clockwork, filling grocery stores, dorm lounges and car rides home with instant warmth.
The semester is finally coming to a close, and once finals are over, we know what it's like to be searching for something to do to fill your time. We present to you an abundance of options of holiday movies to keep you occupied this winter season.

Before most people in Buffalo are even awake, the parking lots around Highmark Stadium begin to come alive for home and away games. Cars slowly roll in one after another, forming long lines in hopes to get set up for the renowned Bills tailgate.
While Buffalo may be known as the City of Good Neighbors, it is certainly not the city of light winters. In Dec. 2022, a catastrophic blizzard hit Buffalo— a snowstorm so intense that it resulted in over 50 inches of snow, 100,000 power losses and 47 deaths. While natural disasters are sometimes unavoidable, your comfort this season is not. Here’s what can be used to make this snowy season more comfortable.
I’m tired of hearing people constantly repeat that “comparison is the thief of joy.” Sure, constantly comparing your life to others can be harmful, but pretending comparison has no place at all can lead to ignorance. Comparison, when used with intention, helps us put life into perspective. It reminds us of our blessings and prevents us from moving through life with ungratefulness.
The current amount of existing gay oriented bars, especially lesbian bars, has been in a decline for years. While a few gay bars exist in the city of Buffalo, there are no bars catering specifically to queer women. Buffalo’s shortage of sapphic spaces is representative of a decline that can be seen in almost every city in America, and even in foreign countries. The current number of lesbian bars remaining in the U.S., according to various sources — including The Lesbian Bar Project — is somewhere between 33-38. At one point in the 1980s, this number was closer to 200.
It’s been three weeks since the federal government has reopened after a 43-day shutdown, but communities across the country — including here in Buffalo — are still feeling the repercussions. The shutdown, which ended on Nov. 13, 2025, left federal employees working without pay and temporarily stopped federal programs such as healthcare services and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Men’s basketball went down to Fort Myers, Florida, to compete in the Skechers Fort Myers Tip-Off tournament. Placed in the palms division, the Bulls notched two wins over Virginia Military Institute (VMI) (3-6, 0-0 SoCon) 78-70, and a win over the Bucknell Bison (2-6, 0-0 Patriot) 73-71, to maintain a perfect 7-0 record.
One of my first memories is when I was two years old. I believe I was at my mother’s doctor’s office, and an older kid came up to me and asked me how old I was. I remember that I was two because I held up my two fingers to indicate a two. My great-grandmother said, “Oh, he’s bashful.” She used to say that a lot.
Over the past month, the topic of food insecurity in America has received increased coverage in the mainstream press. With the federal government shutting down, Americans were exposed to just how important the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) really was.
After a year's wait, the second half of the movie musical “Wicked” has been released. “Wicked: For Good” has a title paying homage to the most famous song in the second part of the musical, and unfortunately, this song might be one of the only memorable songs from the second act of “Wicked.”
The undergraduate Student Association Senate’s stance on the future closure of a queer community space drew tensions between the two candidates for the Senate’s advocacy committee chairperson position during a committee meeting last Wednesday evening.

Students filed into the Center for the Arts (CFA) in packs beginning at 7 p.m. on Nov. 20, to see a comedian renowned for his surreal and unconventional comedy on “The Eric Andre Show.” Around 8 p.m., the show opened with a set from David Gborie, who some may recognize from his stand-up, or from his work as the voice used in Comedy Central commercials.
A few weeks ago, Sydney Sweeney’s new film, “Christy” premiered with one of the worst box office openings in history.
