Freshman diver Adele Malamud led the University at Buffalo diving team with a fifth-place finish in the women’s 1-meter championship final at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships in Lejeune Hall at the U.S Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD on Monday.
Malamud recorded a score of 549.35 while competing against some of the top divers in the country. The freshman from Kitchener, Ontario finished inside the top five of the championship final, putting together one of the Bulls strongest performances at the meet.
Junior diver Sophie Meuwissen also competed for the Bulls in the women’s 1-meter event, finishing 16th in the championship final with a score of 500.60 after advancing through the preliminary round.
The Zone A Championships serve as the final qualifying meet for the NCAA Division 1 Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships later this month in Atlanta, GA. Divers who finish within the qualifying range at Zones will earn a spot at the aforementioned national meet that starts March 18 and ends on March 21.
