Turner Battle has been named to the ESPN Magazine Academic All-District First Team for the second year in a row. This recognition places Battle on the ballot for possible Academic All-America honors.

Battle's credentials for Academic All-District First Team are his 3.56 grade point average - including a 4.0 last semester while on the court - and his production on the court: 15.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

Battle has been named the Mid-American Conference East division player of the week three times this season. The senior has also been named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week twice on the season.

The best of the Bulls

UB's male and female athletes of the week for last week are Nick Zieziula and Sarah Vance.

Vance notched a second place finish in the shot put and placed seventh in the weight throw at the Kent State tune-up track meet this past weekend. Vance's distance of 47-10 1/2 in the shot put was just two inches short of her season-best mark. Also, her distance of 56-7 1/4 increased her ECAC qualifying toss in the weight throw by nearly two feet.

Zieziula went undefeated in a tennis match against Bucknell over the weekend. Zieziula picked up his 64th career singles victory, tying him for the most singles wins in the history of the school at the Division I level. The win was over Bucknell's Asher Salam in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
