Bracket buster broadcast
The UB Bulls are making their way back onto television sets, except this time it's across the region rather than the nation. Buffalo will play against Fresno State on Saturday as part of ESPN's Bracket Buster Weekend, and the game will be broadcast locally on WNLO. This is the second straight year that the Bulls are competing in the ESPN-sponsored event, and the first time that their game will be carried on local television.
UB's department of athletics will be sponsoring a party at Buffalo Wild Wings at 3035 Niagara Falls Blvd. on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.
Included in the general merriment of watching the game will be raffles in which the athletic department will give away four tickets to the Bulls' final game this year against Akron, an NCAA prize pack and a Bulls replica jersey.
Rockin' the MAC
UB Bulls' freshman wrestler Nate Rock, who won the final match in the Bulls' dual meet victory over Kent State, received Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week honors.
Rock hadn't wrestled in nearly a month because of an LCL sprain in his knee, but in his first match back, he took down Kent State's Aaron Miller at 174 pounds by a score of 7-2, and was able to clinch the victory for the Bulls. That victory was Rock's first dual meet victory, and brought him to 10-16 overall this year. This was his first match since Jan. 14 against Cal State-Bakersfield.
Rock's victory gave the Bulls their first conference victory of this season, which also will turn out to be their only conference victory in the regular season, as they have played their last match, a non-conference match against Slippery Rock last night.
The Bulls will next be in action March 4 in the MAC tournament.
Ice Bulls
For the first time in their history, the UB Bulls have made the 2005 national club hockey tournament. The Bulls are ranked 16th overall, and will face the number one seed in the first round of the tournament. UB is one of two teams in their league, the Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association, to make the tournament. The Bulls' first game is going to be March 3, and they will face off against the University of Rhode Island.
