Good news from gridiron

Two Bulls are potential draft picks this weekend

Center Jamey Richard and defensive end Trevor Scott of the football team hope that their dreams of playing professionally will be realized during

the National Football League Draft this weekend.

Richard was named as an honorable mention to Pro Football Weekly's All-American team and was invited to the Hula Bowl with the nation's top seniors in January.

Scott finished the season with a team-high ten sacks in his first season at defensive end and participated in the Texas vs. The Nation Senior All-Star game in January.

Richard and Scott are the two Bulls this season with the best chance at moving up to the next level. The recognition given to these fine players means nothing but good things for UB Football in the future.

This isn't the first time UB's football team has garnered national attention. Last year, Ramon Guzman and Chad Upshaw left the Bulls and signed free agent contracts with two NFL clubs before the start of training camp. Guzman made the Indianapolis Colts roster while Upshaw made the practice squad of the Carolina Panthers.

Head Coach Turner Gill is responsible for bringing about this national exposure. The team finished 5-7 and were co-champions of the Mid-American Conference East Division last season.

Developing players into legitimate NFL prospects is important to the future of the program. Gaining recognition at the national level will also help the program in recruiting top high school talent.

With NFL-level players, more people should be in the stands for homecoming games. Let's go Buffalo!
