More love for Battle
The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) released its Division I All-District teams, and Turner Battle has been named to the All-District 2 Second Team.
Battle is one of just 150 college basketball players, from a total of 15 districts, who are now eligible for the NABC Division I All-American Team, which will be announced at the end of the college basketball season.
This is the second time Battle has received the honors, as he was also given the same recognition last season.
The Mid-American Conference received a fair amount of recognition by the selectors, as Battle was one of five players from the MAC to be selected. Danny Horace and Chet Mason of Miami (Ohio), Josh Almanson from Bowling Green and Toledo's Keith Triplett were also selected to the All-District 10 Second Team.
In District 2, Battle is joined by Josh Pace from Syracuse, Peter Mulligan from Manhattan, Alvin Cruz from Niagara and Iona's Greg Jenkins.
The All-District 2 First Team consists of Juan Mendez from Niagara, a player who dropped 33 points on the Bulls earlier this season. Joining Mendez are Hakim Warrick and Gerry McNamara from Syracuse, Daryll Hill from St. John's and Loren Stokes out of Hofstra.
Hot-Rod's hot block
In case you missed it on WNLO last Saturday, and again on SportsCenter's Top 10 that night, the highlight of Roderick Middleton's block of Dwight O'Neil's attempted dunk in the first half of UB's game against Fresno State, is now up on BuffaloBulls.com for all to see. The block sparked a first half comeback for the Bulls.
