Wrestling

UB was able to score an 11th place finish out of 13 teams in the Lock Haven Mat Town Tournament. Though the tournament was highlighted by Harold Sherrell's performance at 197 pounds, sophomore Mark McKnight became the quickest Buffalo non-transfer ever to reach 40 victories in his career. McKnight has won 40 of his first 49 matches, shattering the previous mark held by current UB senior red-shirt Kyle Cerminara.

The Bulls, who are currently in the midst of a month-long road trip, will next travel to Las Vegas for the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin on Friday and run through the weekend.

Women's Swimming

Jennefer Brankovsky had a career day at the Canadian open and Short Course Nationals over the weekend in Calgary. Brankovsky recorded three top-ten finishes and set career marks in the 200-meter individual medley, the 100-meter butterfly and the 200-meter breaststroke. She finished 19th in the 100-meter butterfly and 25th in the 200-meter breaststroke.

Athletes of the Week

Harold Sherrell of the wrestling team and Viorica Badinici of the women's basketball team were honored as the UB Athletes of the Week following stellar performances in their respective sports.

Sherrell scored a pair of victories before defeating Minnesota's Matt Koz by a final score of 15-6 to advance to the finals of the Lock Haven Mat Town Tournament last weekend. Despite losing to American University's Muzaffar Abdurakhmanov, Sherrell's semifinal win marked the first trip to the finals in any collegiate tournament that Sherrell has wrestled in as a Bull.

Viorica Badinici has gotten off to a great start in her first year as a member of the UB women's basketball team. Badinici led the Bulls with team highs of 13 points and seven rebounds in the team's first victory of the season against Lafayette last Saturday. Though she has yet to play a home game at Alumni Arena, Badinici has shot 50 percent from the field and has hit two of her three three-point attempts this season. Badinici currently leads the team in scoring with eight points per game.
