UB police investigating sexual assault at Independence Day event

A female teenager reported that she was sexually assaulted at the Town of Amherst's Independence Day event on UB's North Campus.

The female reported that before the fireworks show on Wednesday, an unknown male entered a portable restroom she was using and assaulted her. The female is not associated with UB, according to UB spokesperson Katherine Mckenna.

The suspect is a male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches with a muscular build, wearing a black T-shirt and shorts.

A campus-wide UB alert was sent out on Thursday at 12:47 p.m.

Both Amherst Police and University Police were present at the event and the incident is being considered as a UB Police investigation.

UPD is asking anyone with information to call (716) 645-2222.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
