UB students are jumped on Winspear

Two students were walking back to their home on Winspear Avenue at 1:55 a.m. on Sunday morning when one of them bumped into a male on the sidewalk. The unknown male was with approximately 20 other people who then attacked both students, according to a report on UB Alert.

The victims were treated by paramedics at the scene and transported to Erie County Medical Center.

One student was released from ECMC with minor injuries when the other was still being treated; the latter was expected to leave by Sunday afternoon, according to Chief of University Police Gerald Schoenle.

"This is an off campus assault, so we really do not have any more details than what is stated [on UB Alert]," Schoenle said in an email.

Winspear Avenue, between Winiridge Road and West Northrup Place, is in the City of Buffalo, outside of UPD's jurisdiction.

Buffalo Police is currently investigating the assault.
