Bulls earn Northeast ranking

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has ranked the Bulls women' cross-country team 12th in the Northeast region.

This is the second time that the Bulls have been ranked in a national cross-country poll. They claimed 40th out of 42 teams in 2004. The team gained the recognition after finishing third at the UB Stampede Invitational on Sept. 20 and after a strong performance on Sept.12 at the Spartan Invitational.

Men's soccer earns national recognition

The men's soccer team is ranked ninth in the Great Lakes region, according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Poll.

The Bulls, with a 9-2-1 overall record, share the spot with Michigan (6-2-2) and Loyola (5-2-1). Buffalo holds the longest streak in the country for shutouts so far this season, having not allowed a goal in a total of 566 minutes.

Gwyther and McCalla named players of the week

Senior defender Dan Gywther of the Buffalo men's soccer team was named Mid-American Conference player of the week after his performances against St. Bonaventure and Duquesne on Friday and Sunday.

Gywther scored the game winning point against the Bonnies and helped the Bulls earn a shutout over Dukes.

Gywther directs the back defensive line, protecting the goal and only allowing an average of 3.17 shots on goal per game.

Brooke McCalla, a senior forward and midfielder of the Buffalo women's soccer team, was also named player of the week for the Mid-American Conference.

McCalla scored her first goal of the season against Ohio scoring in the last five minutes to send the game into overtime, giving the Bulls a chance at the win.

She is also tied for second on the team with two assists this season.
