To the Editor:
Michael Vick is still in prison because he is guilty of extreme animal cruelty and the case has brought the despicable "sport" of dog fighting into he spotlight for the heinous crime that it is, along with all animal abuse and exploitation.
The Michael Vick case is a perfect example of pitiful human excuses for "role models" thrust into the media because of their obscene salaries and lucrative product endorsements, because to some, abusing and killing an animal equals machismo.
Where are the role models who will teach our children the virtue of treating all animals with respect? By the way, "ownership" does not give one the right to commit heinous acts of cruelty on animals.
Be reminded that the strong connection between the abuse, torture, and killing of animals and that of humans has been well documented. In most states, animal cruelty is now a felony, no longer a misdemeanor.
Showing concern for animals does not preclude caring for human beings, on the contrary. Michael Vick is still in prison because he deserves to be there.
