A male student was attacked on Core Road in the Ellicott Complex around 3:15 a.m. Sunday morning. The victim was approached from behind after he got out of a cab and was beaten by an unknown number of assailants.
The student was taken to Erie County Medical Center for lacerations to his head and face, according to Lieutenant Roy Guarino of the University Police Department (UPD). He was released from the hospital on Sunday.
The UPD has not released any physical descriptions of the attackers. They remain unsure whether the attack was random or targeted, Guarino said.
"We don't know if it's one or 100, male or female," Guarino said.
Guarino said the UPD is looking into surveillance cameras from the area to see if there is any evidence of the assault.
"My only suggestion is to always travel in groups and remember that you're always safer in numbers," Guarino said. Students with any information on this attack can contact the UPD at 645-2222.
