Close call with Manuel

UB Athletics Director Warde Manuel was recently interviewed for the AD position at the University of Washington, according to the Buffalo News.

A source close to the situation stated that Manuel flew to Seattle twice to meet with Washington officials, but it is not known if he was considered a finalist for the job.

When contacted today, University of Washington Assistant Director of Communications Richard Mulachy neither confirmed nor denied the report.

"We do not disclose lists of interviewees," Mulachy said. "We went through a search firm. They kept everything behind closed doors. The company did not disclose any names."

Buffalo assistant Athletic Director/Communications Paul Vecchio explained that Manuel neither confirmed nor denied the report as well.

"We do not have any statement concerning the issue," he said.

Instead, Manuel released a statement outlining his view on being athletic director for the Bulls.

"I'm happy at the University at Buffalo and look forward to continued success at UB," Manuel said in a statement.

On Wednesday, acting AD Scott Woodward officially filled the vacant position at the University of Washington.
