Bulls vs. Bulls on the gridiron
To exhibit what's in store for fans in the upcoming 2005 season, the UB football team will conclude spring practices with its annual Blue-White Scrimmage at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Kicking off the festivities, the scrimmage will be preceded by the official rededication of the Old UB Stadium in Walter Kunz' name at 1 p.m.
Dr. Kunz, former head of UB's Blue and White Club, has shared a 40-year relationship with UB and is the 2002 winner of the Russell J. Gugino Award. The award recognizes alumni for their contributions to the university's athletic program.
Tassy takes another
The women's soccer team's five early signings apparently weren't enough for head coach Jean-A. Tassy.
Tassy announced the signing of the team's sixth recruit to a national letter of intent for next season.
Nikki Wilson was an All-City first-team honoree for Franklin High School in El Paso. The new Bull played midfielder during high school and will continue to play there at UB.
In addition to playing soccer for her high school, Wilson played club soccer for the El Paso Storm and was a member of the Colorado Girls Soccer Academy tournament team.
For the Storm, Wilson was captain for four years and also started for the '87 New Mexico Olympic Development Program team for four years. The New Mexico team won the Region IV ODP Championship last season.
Tassy likes Wilson's field-vision and her awareness, and will most likely keep her at midfielder. He also believes that she will adjust to playing on a college level easily and will immediately add to the team's ability to attack opposing defenses.
In addition to soccer, Wilson ran cross-country and was a member of the Junior Olympic Championship 3,200-meter relay team. At UB, Wilson will enroll in the business program.
