The Bulls' tennis teams dominated competition this week, claiming both of UB's men's and women's athletes of the week awards.
Tina Jacob of the women's tennis team was key in the Bulls' two victories in Mid-American Conference singles matches over the weekend. Jacob played sixth singles and scored a straight-set victory over Sarah Thompson in a match at Eastern Michigan and then went onto win a super-tiebreaker against Flavia Micati of Toledo. These wins extended her record to 8-5 in singles matches this year.
Josh Liederman of the men's tennis team won his singles match and captured the entire match for his team on Saturday with his third set tiebreak-victory over Toledo's Travis Curran. This gave the Bulls their first conference victory this year.
Magic on the mound
Mark Tourangeau became the seventh UB pitcher to be named the MAC East Division's player of the week. He pitched a complete game three-hit shutout against the Navy Midshipmen on Saturday. Tourangeau is currently 1-1 on the year with a 5.02 ERA. His shutout was only the seventh shutout in UB history since the baseball program was reinstated at the Division I level.
Additionally, in the same game, Tourangeau passed 50 career strikeouts in a UB uniform. He leads the Bulls this year with 16 strikeouts.
