Classroom stars


Five members of UB's men's and women's indoor track and field teams were named to the Academic All-MAC Team.

Four female athletes and one male athlete represented the Bulls on the Academic All-MAC squads.

Faith Thompson, who compiled a 3.97 GPA, won the weight throw at the MAC Championship, earned all-MAC honors. Thompson set a school record in the weight throw with a distance of 64-8 1/2, and also qualified for the upcoming NCAA Championships.

Joining Thompson is Jenny Koeppel, who has a 3.64 GPA in addition to her efforts on the track, which provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Championships in the 3,000-meter race.

Joining Koeppel is Jen Jezorski, who has compiled a 3.61 GPA in addition to qualifying for the ECAC Championships in four individual events.

Another UB trackster on the all-MAC team is Kate Kohout, who has a 3.7 GPA. She ran the second leg of UB's distance relay, which also placed her third at the MAC Championships, while setting a new school record with a time of 11:44.97. Additionally, she finished 15th, right behind Jezorski in the mile run at the MAC Championships.

The lone member of the men's track and field team to be named to the Academic All-MAC team is Steve Strelick, who accumulated a 3.35 GPA. Strelick won the mile run at UB's first indoor meet this semester, with a time of 4:21.94. He also finished second in the mile at the Cornell Invitational with a time of 4:22.73. At the MAC Championships, Strelick finished 13th in the 3,000-meter race with a time of 8:44.08.


UB on ESPN



The UB Bulls' men's basketball will make its return to ESPN, but on a new network, ESPNU.

ESPNU is a network devoted to the coverage of all college sports, and as such, ESPNU will be airing the opening round of the Mid-American Conference Championships tonight. The game at Alumni Arena is set to tip-off at 7 p.m.

The MAC Championship game is slated to air on ESPN2 at noon on Sunday, March 12.
