I read the article about traffic conditions on Sweet Home Road ("Dangerous Crossroads," March 4) with interest. A left turn lane could alleviate some of the traffic problems, but there is another step that needs to be taken to make that intersection even safer.
The current speed limit of 45 miles per hour is much too high. When the limit is 45, many drivers go at least 10 miles an hour over the limit. In addition, Sweet Home has a fair number of joggers and cyclists who often wear dark clothes. They are difficult to see in the early morning darkness. When this is combined with the high speed limit, it is surprising no one has been killed along that road.
Lowering the speed limit once one crosses Maple Road would be a great community service.
