Election continues as turnout lags

The Student Association election for E-board and delegate positions enters its second day Wednesday, and after one day of voting, the turnout is far behind that of last year's.

On Tuesday, 638 students voted. If Tuesday's pace continues through the next two days of voting, this week's election will see 1,914 students go to the polls. Last year, a record 2,246 students voted in the election.

Polls will be open in the Student Union on Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. A valid student ID is required to vote.

Two students have dropped from the election: delegate candidate Robin Padliya, for academic ineligibility, and treasurer candidate Corey Robinson.

Francisco Baiocchi, who is running for SUNY SA delegate, has not dropped from the race and will remains on the ballot with the Reform Our Campus party. Baiocchi told The Spectrum last Thursday he planned to drop from the race, but changed his mind early Friday.

The ballot for the election then stands as follows, by position with each candidate's party:

President:

Dela Yador - Elevation '05

Vice President:

Sonia Kang - Elevation '05

Treasurer:

Mazin Kased - Elevation '05

Mike Telesford - Independent

SUNY SA Delegate (four are elected):

Francisco Baiocchi - Reform Our Campus

Laura London - Elevation '05

Matthew Pelkey - Reform Our Campus

Jason Rivera - Independent

Peter Rizzo - Elevation '05

Elizabeth Salzman - Reform Our Campus

Brittany Shapiro - Elevation '05

Mercedes Tavarez - Elevation '05
