Burgio Floats Plan For Winter Fest

Instead of using funds to add a second day to Fall Fest this semester, the Student Association is considering a first annual Winter Fest, according to SA President Anthony Burgio.

"We're in the early stages of planning for one," Burgio said.

"Right now we're making sure our organization exists and that we're well-funded," he added, referring to this month's vote on the mandatory activity fee. "September is a month of survival."

Burgio stressed that the Winter Fest plans are in their early stages.

"Though the plans are not concrete, the Winter Fest would act as an extension or second day to the fall festival," he said. "The Winter Fest would basically be the second day of the fall festival -- Fall Fest, part two."

According to Burgio, the event would either take place in November, January or even early February.

"The holiday season would be too hectic," he said.

Burgio said he thought that dividing Fall Fest into two different components would allow for different kinds of musical acts to perform.

"The festival would be a slightly scaled down, and would include different genres of music not normally incorporated," he said. "If we had rock bands play in the fall, Winter Fest would focus on a different genre, like rap and hip-hop."

Burgio also said down the line he has aspirations for fests with different themes.

"I've always wanted a Beer Fest," Burgio said. "If not now, in the future."
